Wine tasting in South Africa
Wine tasting! Can’t visit South Africa without at least one day hitting the wine country so that’s what we did. Our ride picked us up around 7:30am and off to the vineyards. Not real familiar with African wine but after today, we’ll all be experts. We’ll visit four wineries today, some with cheese and chocolate pairings, some just wine, either way, good day is to be had.
The tour hit all the best wineries, Lanverac Wine Estates, Delair Graff, Rickety Bridge Winery, and Franschhoek Cellars (premier wines).  Found a couple of really good selections but my fave was the Pinotage, a special grape only grown here in South Africa that’s a cross between Pinot Noir and Hermitage, red color and not too heavy. Try it.
Getting around the wineries is rather unique. They have a” train” that runs through the vineyards that is nothing more than a single trolley car on a 2.1km track. Kinda underwhelming but a unique way to visit wineries.

Dan, I went to Bevy’s to see if they had the wine, they did carry Pinotage but not Lanzerac. I am disappointed 🙂
Hey Barb (my most loyal reader), should still be a good choice. We tried several vintages and all were pretty close, and tasted good. Lighter than a cab, not as light as a pinot. Cheers.
