Victoria Falls and Goodbye to Africa
Our time in Africa has come to an end. Tomorrow, we head out on a final tour, Victoria Falls, then off to Singapore – Malaysia.
Already told you about Vic Falls(that’s what the locals call it). Haven’t said anything yet about Dr. Livingstone, you presume, nor did I mention it is one of the worlds 7 natural wonders.
OK, so yep, the good doctor is credited with naming, not discovering, Victoria Falls. Named after the Queen of the United Kingdom, November 16,1855. Before he decided he could change the name, the locals called Vic Falls, Mosi-oa-Tunya (The Smoke that Thunders).
And as for the wonder, you have to wonder about people that visit these falls (over 100 meters tall) and decide to take a swim in th Devil’s Pool. That’s a shallow pool of water located at the edge of the falls where you can go with a guide and look over the edge while taking a dip. I decided I could rename this pool, just like ole Doc renamed he falls, to Idiot’s Pool. Seems more appropriate to me, swimming at the edge of a 350′ waterfall.
No statistics are kept on the number of people who take the high dive but there have been a few, even some who have survived. A Chinese tourist named Wang Shunxue survived a fall in November 2013; in January 2026, a 49-year-old American tourist, Christopher Erik Daniel Gibbs, did not..
For those of you who have never seen a waterfall- Victoria Falls (at the start of the rainy season).

Did you do the zip line across the falls? Looks like another awesome trip. Enjoy Singapore! We need to make a small change in our June itinerary. Should I contact them directly?
No zip line, getting too old to take too many crap shoots. Sent you an email about the cruise.
